Sweet 16

It was sixteen years ago today that I decided to do something that would affect the rest of my life. It was Sunday, March 1, 1998. It had been on my mind for quite a while. Being 11 years old at the time, I knew what needed to be done. Through much study and prayer I had come to a decision, but of course,  I had help from many people, especially family and friends. The closing song was being sung, my parents and the minister were waiting, they knew what was about to take place. The first verse was over and nothing had happened yet. We then went to the second verse, nothing. The youth group at the time sat only a few rows from the front, so there would be just a few steps to take. We then arrived to the last verse of the song…. Then we got to the chorus…. Mid way through the chorus, I knew that I had made a decision and it was time.

After studying the Word, I knew the process.
I had heard the word preached time and time again.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Romans 10:17
Upon hearing the Gospel, I believed.
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
I was ready to confess that Jesus is my Lord and Savior.
“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:32
I had believed the Gospel, I had confessed Jesus, and now, just like all those on the day of Pentecost, I was ready to be saved from my sins.
Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

I was baptized for the forgiveness of sins on that day sixteen years ago and it has made all the difference.

Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
1 Peter 3:21-22
