Happy Anniversary

It’s an adventure. Two imperfect people with one perfect thing in common: Love.

William Shakespeare wrote these words on love:

Doubt thou the stars are fire;
Doubt that the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;
But never doubt I love.

He understood that love was powerful. However, I wonder if he knew how powerful it was. I have to remind myself that Love is much more stronger and bigger than I think.

When you travel on long trips and go see the open road, you hope all goes well, wishing you don’t have any bumps in the road. But it tends to happen. You’re late, a flat tire, lost your luggage, plane was delayed. The one thing that holds it together? The destination.

Four years ago I married the woman I’d been searching and praying for. The path to each other was bumpy. It took a while for her to realize it but she was the one. Asking her to go on a date was more difficult than I thought. First time I asked to go out to eat, she responded with, “Yeah, let’s get a big group together and go eat somewhere…” Ha, not what I was looking for. Year later, she finally said yes. And she may have been regretting it ever since 🙂

The day before my wedding, I spoke with a friend and he told me something I will never forget about marriage. He said, “Will, you will love marriage. It’s great. You spend time with your best friend. I just hate it when people throw jokes at the idea of marriage. It is so much bigger and better than we make it out to be.” That is so true. When two Christian individuals find each other and make those vows before family, friends, and God, it is only the beginning. It’s the beginning of the adventure. You will experience hurt, loss, anger, and many bumps in the road. But the one thing that holds it together? The Destination. It is the love of each other, the love of family and friends, and most importantly the love you both have for God that directs you back on the path: The path of helping each other grow closer to God as you grow closer to each other, knowing one day you will arrive. Spending eternity with God, the one true love you both have.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
